Following the Confederate bombardment of Fort Sumter in April, 1861, America is in a state of civil war as the armies of North and South march against one another. Three months later, in July of 1861, along the banks of a stream known as Bull Run in Northern Virginia near the railroad junction of Manassas, these two green, untested armies will meet together for the first time in battle in what would become the first major engagement of the Civil War. Both sides believe the war will be a short, clean affair – over in no more than ninety days. The Battle of Bull Run, or Battle of Manassas, will prove both North and South wrong as they face the realities of a long and bloody industrial conflict in the first epic clash of the war.
